After an extremely successful stint behind the wheel of the Downing Brothers #97 Cool Victorian David Murcott has left the team with talented young Tasmania Shaun Dobson being named as his replacement. The new deal will see Dobson racing throughout South Australia and Victoria with the current Australia #2 set to debut with the team at the Bill Wigzell Battle of the Bridge at the Murray Bridge Speedway in late October.

“We looked at having Dave back in the car this year when his schedule allowed and putting another driver in when he wasn’t available but that wasn’t the ideal situation. When Shaun indicated that he was stepping out of the sport for a year we had a chat and both Mike and myself are delighted to have such a great young talent driving our car. With Dave leaving it will allow him to concentrate on the #83 car, as they are looking to step up their performance and I wish those guys all the best for the upcoming year” added Team Owner Darryl Downing.

At this stage a final schedule has not been organised but Darryl mentioned that they will take in a number of big events including the Masters, Speedweek and of course the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic. “Well that is the plan at this stage but anything can happen, we will just take it as it comes. We really think that Shaun will be a great fit in our small team as he presents himself well, he is confident and he will stay in a Cool car that he is very familiar with. To be honest we can’t be happier to have him drive for us”.

With Dobson set to add his name to driver’s list of the beautiful orange #97 he joins the likes of Kerry and Ian Madsen, Trevor Green, Matthew Reed, Jamie Cobby, Jason Loveday and Murcott as some of the big names to drive for the likable “Downing Boys”.

In closing Darryl mentioned that he would like to thank all of their sponsors who have stuck by them despite the driver change especially Mainline, one of Murcott’s long-time sponsors and of course Dave for services to the team. “During our time with Dave as our driver we won nearly everything you could in SA including the Bill Wigzell Battle, the State Title, the Masters, the Nationals, Easter Trail rounds and we ran third in last year’s Australian Title, so we were pretty successful. Let’s hope that can continue with Shaun”.
