Back in action over the weekend for one last tune up before World Series Sprint Cars kicks off on Boxing Day, Ian Madsen and his McDonald Motorsports team were back in action in Brisbane, and the St. Mary’s, NSW driver landed on the podium again.
Kicking his night off by timing his Watson’s Express Transport/Eagle Motorsports/East Coast Logistics backed machine in ninth fastest, putting him in the third row of both of his heat races.
In the first heat, Madsen got off to a great start as he threaded the needle on a pair of occasions, and wound up fining in the second spot.
During the second round of heats, Madsen was equally as strong, as his Lucas Oil/Interstate Finance and Leasing/Gin Gin Diesel machine was dialed in, and he worked his way up to a third place finish, putting his machine in the Dash.
Lining up in the third spot of the Dash, Madsen wasn’t able to improve his feature event starting position, but he didn’t lose any ground either as he finished in the third spot, putting him in the second row.
The feature event was very eventful for Madsen and his No. Q29 team. While running in the third spot, Madsen made hard contact with the wall, and lost several spots, slipping back to the ninth spot.
With no major damage, he continued on and fought back into the fourth spot, when again he had an issue, and slipped back to the eighth spot.
Gathering himself, Madsen continued to fight, and as the checkered flag flew, he had rallied himself back to the third spot.
“Man, we had a great car again all night, and unfortunately there were a couple of set backs in the feature event, but I am happy we fought back to third,” he said. “We have an awesome team here, and they were able to swap out some parts very quickly between heats, and continue to get this car better and better, so that is huge to know heading into WSS Speedweek.”
None of this would be possible without a ton of support, and Madsen would like to thank Watson’s Express Transport, Eagle Motorsports, East Coast Logistics, Lucas Oil , Interstate Finance and Leasing, Gin Gin Diesel, Adornato Sand and Gravel, QSS Spares, Oval Express, Inglis Race Engines, and Factory Kahne Shocks for everything they will be doing for this team.
