South Australian Luke Dillon became the fourth driver from the southern state to claim the Australian 360ci Sprintcar Championship as he edged out a fast finishing Matthew Reed in what was a tense finish to the 40 lap finale at the Borderline Speedway. After leading the entire journey Dillon almost surrendered the lead on the final corner as the duo banged wheels as Reed charged up the inside of the race leader but Dillon had enough momentum on the top to get to the finish line first by a mere .394 of a second.

“Last night it was really important to get as many points as possible so you make sure you can start up front for the second night so it all went really well last night and we continued it on again tonight. This win is really important to me we put in a huge effort to do this race, Matt Muir had to sit this season out due to work commitments and he was getting race sick so he rang me up and asked if I was doing this race, which I wasn’t, so he shipped all his gear over to our house so it has been a huge effort and I am pleased that we could be successful” added the new Australian Champion on the podium.

Third across the line was Western Australian Cameron Gessner who charged from position 11 to claim the final podium spot. Throughout the finale Gessner was involved in a great race with Daniel Pestka and Reed with Reed finally getting the better of Gessner with a big outside pass.

After missing the Preliminary A-Main on night 1 Strathalbyn’s Daniel Pestka made a great recovery as he finished fourth after starting alongside Gessner on the sixth row.

Fifth place went the way of Paul Soloman with Dan Evans, former Australian Champion Chad Ely, who was running as high as second, Brad Warren, Jack Lee and Mark Caruso completing the top 10. Caruso was lucky to claw his way back inside the top 10 after spinning his #33 Cool in turn four with 14 laps remaining.

After finishing in the runner-up spot on night 1 and then starting from the outside of the front row Victorian youngster Dion Bellman has a feature to forget as he spun his V40 J&J after making contact with an infield tyre.

Earlier in the night the final six heats were conducted with Luke Dillon, Eddie Lumbar, Chad Ely, Dan Evans, Tony Moule and Chris Soloman all taking a heat win. Broken Hill resident Brendan Guerin, Western Australian Robert Watson Jr, Mark Caruso and Phil Lock transferred to back of the 18 car Championship field after finishing inside the top 4 in the B-Main.
