The #41 JAK Civil/Cowara Motorsport Team have kicked off their Northern Territory campaign with a fine third placing.
Last Saturday night at the Northline Speedway in Darwin saw the team - with new driver Ben Atkinson on board - contest the opening round of the Chariots of Thunder Series.
There were 25 cars on hand and Atkinson clocked a lap time of 13.305 seconds around the 402 metre Northline oval to be third fastest in qualifying.
The first 10-lap heat race saw Atkinson start second, drop back to fourth, and cross the line fourth.
In his next outing he came out of position eight and quickly moved up to third and finished in second spot.
This put Atkinson into the Pole Shootout where he was sixth.
The 25-lap main event - for the Make A Wish Cup - turned out to be a race of attrition with no less than five caution light stoppages before a single racing lap had been completed.
Atkinson was shuffled back as far as eleventh, then began to make a forward move.
He raced back through the field to take over fourth place.
When the race leader crashed - and the time being well after midnight - the race was declared and Atkinson given third.
It was a torrid but good first up night for the JAK Civil/Cowara Motorsport Team in the Top End.
They will spend the week making sure their projectile is all set for the upcoming double-header - Friday and Saturday night shows at Northline, with several more competitors being added to the field.
