GREAT DEBUT FOR MOLLENOYUX WITH COWARA/JAK CIVIL TEAM
Author : Ken Brown

Victorian charger Darren Mollenoyux has slotted seamlessly into the Cowara/Jak Civil #41 Sprintcar team, turning eyes with an impressive performance at the WA Sprintcar Championship at the Perth Motorplex last Saturday.
A strong 27 car field contested the Time Trial with Mollenoyux reeling off a 14.017 second lap to give him second place.
He started off the front row in his opening heat and came home in second.
Starting positions were inverted for the next round of heats and Mollenoyux lined up in position 8.
He worked his way through the field in brilliant fashion to cross the line second.
This meant Mollenoyux would start the 30-lap WA Sprintcar Championship final from pole position.
At the green he was in second spot and despite a strong challenge was unable to take over the lead.
However he was right behind the leader for the first half of the race.
Then on lap 20 he suffered an engine issue and wisely pulled onto the infield.
It was a disappointing end to a fine debut by Mollenoyux with his new team - he had never previously raced at the Motorplex.
"It was probably the one that got away," said Mollenoyux after the meeting. "Although I feel we can take a lot of positives out of the night.
"The car had plenty of speed and I ended up a lot more confident in the car."
Mollenoyux will now contest the World Series Sprintcars competition in his own car and looks likely to step back into the Cowara/Jak Civil Team car at the Avalon Raceway in Victoria on January 17 for the President's Cup.
