360 Regulars Hoping To Upset The Stars

This weekend’s Australian 360ci Sprintcar Championship at the Perth Motorplex has a number of high profile drivers and teams contesting the event but the bulk of the 39-car field is made up of local weekly budget racers that will all be out to cause an upset in the biggest 360ci race of the season.

For many names such as Adrian Haywood, Tom Hooper, Ben Van Ryt, Cory Galpin, Kent Roberts, Greg Hall, Michael Keen, Steve Adley and Ben Butcher may not be household names, but it is drivers such as these that make these events what they are. They may not have the big budgets, the number of laps under their belts or the number of wins during their careers as their main competition but without these drivers this category or these events would not exist.

For example, at the Australian Title last season at the same venue Tom Hooper was one of the standout performers of the weekend racing from the B-Main to finish sixth in the Championship final! For many a sixth-place finish wouldn’t be anything to celebrate but for Hooper the result was as good as a win as he was the first genuine 360ci racer home in the 40-lap finale.

Ben Van Ryt was another who impressed as he finished eighth while Adrian Haywood, a former standout in the Dirt Kart ranks, qualified for the main event as the fifth highest qualifier, outracing the likes of Luke Dillon, Cameron Gessner and Shaun Bradford throughout the heat races.

So, keep an eye out for the drivers that have been mentioned, along with the South Australians in the field, as they may just cause an upset or two this weekend at the Perth Motorplex and who knows the open domination of the race may just come to an end.

The 2018 Di Candilo Steel City Australian 360ci Sprintcar Championship will be held at the Perth Motorplex, Kwinana Beach on Saturday March 17 & Sunday March 18, 2018.
